On Thursday 15 th June 2023 Flavia, our Schools Co-ordinator for Engage Youth Mentoring and myself attended the awards Ceremony organised by the “We Love Lichfield Fund”.

There were 18 charities present from the Lichfield area to receive monetary awards to help sustain their charities. All charities had to complete an application to be selected for an award.

Simon who led the event explained that “We Love Lichfield Fund“ is essentially a charity like a pension fund. It invests money (using the same principle as a pension fund) which it fundraises for and re-distributes to charities that apply and will benefit each year.

Each charity’s name was called out and a speaker from that charity gave a short speech about their charity's work and what the monetary donation will allow them to do. It was very humbling to hear about the work of the charities present and their roles in benefiting residents within the Lichfield area. It was very evident that “We Love Lichfield” knows no boundaries. People from “all walks of life”, ages, gender and abilities are going to benefit from the funding they have recently received. After everyone’s speeches, there was time for networking, with organisations that didn’t previously know of each other, now having the potential to benefit each other in the future.

What I personally took away from this ceremony was that Lichfield is an even greater place to live than I realised. The city would be a poorer place without all the volunteers in it that do so much good for so many.
